None of the cars used in that movie were real W30s. Someone is gonna get screwed if they buy that car for what it is being mis represented as being.

Two of them had Chevy engines in them. There was a writeup about them in the JWO way back then.

I wonder if the car is going to come with a signed pic from Stallone or Snipes? Even a pic of the car with Jesse Ventura would be cool. 😎

1970 OLDSMOBILE 442 W-30 'DEMOLITION MAN' (barrett-jackson.com)

"It was purchased from the GM Heritage Collection on an MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin). This is a very special 442 W-30 that is indisputably documented by its Certificate of Origin from GM. Oldsmobile modified this car for the movie with performance options not offered to the public."

Yes. And the old repop red inner fenders. I looked at this car before. It is far from todays standards of a restoration but still a nice looking car. I am sure the movie will help the price.

GM bought the car after the movie came out, it was assembled(along with 2 other 1970s) by a company in Romeo, MI hired by the production company

This car was purchased from a friend of mine, by the company that prepared it for the movie. His car was used in the underground still shots.

Wow, what a load of BS.
There was also a write up of this (and the other two that were built for the movie, as stated above) in I believe it was Muscle Car Review back when the movie came out. I still have that issue buried somewhere in my mountain of old car magazines.

Was it a REAL W30 when your friend owned it?

I will have to ask him, however I don't believe it was. It's been quite some time since he owned it.

I remember him telling me that it was a numbers matching car, and they bought 2 more. They may have put a chevrolet engine in it for filming(?).

He has owned several W-Cars, Stage 1's, and RA Pontiacs, as well as a whole host of Mopars.

It really bums me to read these writeups full of extra adjectives and mis-statements (lies?). All written by sleazy sales people. As an example,

"To help it really shine in its movie role, GM added some modifications not available to the public, making this ride unique." Translation, "this car isn't original".

Amen. So much BS out there on reworked (see: hack jobs) trying to be put out there as real true cars. I would bet the farm that not one single Demolition Man movie car was a true W car. Those cars were slapped together for a movie. They could have cared less the originality. It has been written that about 99 percent of those movie cars were nothing more than a Cutlass dressed up. Anyone that pays big money for this car thinking that it is a true W car is not an Oldsmobile person.
Sounds very simple but check that VIN.

I know for a fact that Tim's 442 they purchased was a true 442, and it was numbers matching....but, that being said, I am not sure they left it that way.

But was it a factory W car?

What proof is there of the VIN and "numbers matching" ? There are pictures to support that? Lansing built car?

I remember an article that said there were two or three cars and at least one was destroyed making the movie. I haven't come across that article yet, but I did find this from 2011, VIN 344870M209095 with basically the same BS description: https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...-HARDTOP-96650

You get it. Kind of like the Rockford Files Firebird that recently sold. How many cars did they beat the crap out of?? Oh but wait look here is The original car. Go blow that smoke somewhere else. Scams are All day Everyday.
Some FOOL wants to go spend Blow J (Err I mean BJ) money on a car that is nowhere near an original W car ? Go do it. The collector market has become such a joke. I feel for people with authentic cars. Fools don't care anymore about authenticity. Fools just like to say look how much I spent.
How many examples have we seen here? How many fake cars get defended here? Makes me sick.

I have always thought the phrase "true 442" was try-hard and hillbilly.

Found it!! I was incorrect, it was B.O.P. monthly, not MCR. This was the February 1994 issue, car was featured on the cover:

According to the article, there were three 442's and all varied greatly in condition. Prepared by a company in Michigan called Vehicle Research and Development, near Romeo. First one being very nice, second was a driver and third being a total mess. #1 reportedly being a real W30 car, with a 455. Other two had 350's, however NO mention of them being Chevy engines. All three motors were either rebuilt or replaced and " none were modified for the movie." All cars were repainted to match and interiors replaced. Supposedly all done in 17 days.
Apparently all three survived, and went on the car show circuit back in 1994.

So that is why I could not find it in JWO. I was thinking that was were it was and was looking for over an hour for the issue. Now I need to find my copy of BOP...

EDIT... I did read someplace that it was Chevy engines in at least two of them. I wonder what publication it was.

Found the JWO issue. It says the real W-30 had a 350 put in it and then later says it had a 455. The other two were 350 Olds according this this.

Reading it closer I am understanding. The W-30 got the 350 from the Cutlass S. One of the other cars had the correct 455 but was not the W-30. After seeing this compared to the listing, Whoever buys it had best just want it for the fact it is a movie car....

Oh but Blow J says it's numbers matching. What a joke. Just be honest and call it what it is. I would love to see forged numbers on the car for sale.

G heads on a 1970 Cutlass kinda disrupts the “original numbers matching” narrative.

Thanks for posting the JWO article. I tried to get a shot of the rest of the BOP one and it keeps coming out unreadable on my crappy phone pics. I'll see if I can get the rest of it posted

I feel like that is likely a proper price under the fact of movie car. A pure high end automatic W-30 with correct parts and documents is in that range or more now.

But it's not. Zero proof that it is real. Well spent money right? Numbers matching my a"". Got that money because it was bought by a movie car fan. Not an Oldsmobile fan that cares about truth.
