Dash speaker size for 1972 Toronado?
Looking for speaker sizes for my 1972 Toronado so I can upgrade and replace factory speakers. Anyone know offhand what fits in the dash and behind the rear seats without cutting/modifying? I checked out classicrestorations website and they keep thinking the Toro has a center dash mounted speaker, which is incorrect. It has two dash mounted speakers, one on each side.

If factory stereo radio front speaker should be 3-1/2" round, with 6x9 under the package shelf. Can't remember if the 72 front speakers come out from the top or if you have to go in from the bottom.

The grills are top mount so I'm assuming they come out from top. I'll update when I get the hardware in to replace them. Thanks!

My 71 98 has 3.5" speakers on each side of the front dash. They come out by loosening the speed nuts from underneath.
Be aware that modern multi-cone speakers may not clear the OE speaker grill. I had to get aftermarket speaker grills for the new speakers I installed in my Oldsmobile.

This may not apply but I put some speakers in my 72 D88, Modified the grills for some BHCS and put a spacer between dash and speaker, I had the 2 frt. speaker option with my car.

Cut off stock studs that mount speakers
Drilled and counter bored grill for the BHCS, to fit new speaker, wanted to use factory grill.
