Dash

Hey Guys (Any & All Advise) on painting the dash lettering white on black dash - how do you do this in a neat way by lettering I mean ashtray radio lights wipers all above the components like switches etcThis is on a 1964 Olds Cutlass now that I painted the black part of the dash I want to do the white lettering - is there a trick or advise to doing this or more importantly who knows out there how the factory did it? Also (important point) is there a special white paint & applicator for this sold by someone I ask because I know on others dashes they sell specific silver paint & applicator for the dash again any guidance - direction or advise greatly appreciated

This is what was recommended to me for my 68. I haven't tried it yet:

Those paint pens work excellent on a 68 because the letters are raised.
not sure on a 64. Someone here should know and hopefully chime in.

someone (maybe eric jensen77) used rub on letters on one project it came out nice but IDK how he kept the lettering so uniformly straight

A foam paint brush, 1/2 " wide and then cut it down to 1/4" wide and 1/4" of foam past the handle.
soak paint into foam, dab extra out of it, then slide it over the lettering you want painted, lightly, don't push the brush hard against the part, and make sure the foam is wet with paint, but not soaked/loaded.
works great and the brush is cheap

I taped the escutcheons around the gauges and spray painted them but it requires a bit of clean-up. I painted over the lettering with the black and then used a silver Sharpie pen. The letters were a bit distorted because a previous owner had painted over them so thick I had to pick it out and the lettering didn't hold up too well.
