Correct install of notched valve covers?

I just installed a pair of notched valve covers on my 1970 455 engine. On the pass side, I put long notch down. On drivers side, I put short notch down. Is this correct? It seems, to maximize clearances, the notched sides should be up. There are only 2 options if notches are on the rear of the engine. Any input would be grateful! Rick

Not sure what you mean by "down", as the valve covers can only be installed on the heads one way. In any case, notches go to the back.

Let me put this another way. The valve cover with the longer notch, I put on the pass side. The shorter notched cover went on the driver side, yes notches at rear at firewall. Is this correct?

like Joe said, the notches go to the back, and if you put them to the back, they only go on one way.

if i remember right the long one is for the passenger side because if the car had A/C it required a longer notch than the brake booster.

Just wondering because I seen a picture of a w30 engine on inline tube website, and they had the notch up front on pass side behind the alternator. It was a non A/C setup. Theirs must be incorrect!

It is. Funny, since they seem to constantly win awards. This is why I'm not a big fan of judged shows.
