This cap came on my 1979 / HO not vented. is this the correct gas cap the gold color matches the paint on the car

 

That aftermarket cap is gold because someone painted it gold. It isn't even close to the original cap. The original cap looked about like this, and was black plastic.

My 79 T/A has that cap but plated with cadmium silver. I'm the original owner and that's the cap that came with the car. I took delivery of the car the day after it arrived at the dealer so I don't believe they would have changed it. So GM must have been using that style in 79. I can't comment on what other cars used it.

 

My 79 Trans Am also came with the metal style cap new from the factory. Might have been a Pontiac thing.
