I seem to be loosing cooling fluid. I can't find any leaks. No puddles on the floor. The engine and transmiton fluid are the same and not milky. Any idea where it could be going. I'm a bit leery to run it till I figure it out. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

 

The car is a 69 442 with a 455 in it. It has an overfill tank. I add coolant to the tank, drive the car and it is about 1/4 full. Engine cools, coolant disappears as it should, with cooling. Add some more coolant and same thing happened next time.

 

Check if your coolant is leaking to the interior from your heater core. Pull up the passenger side carpet and feel for dampness in the padding.

 

Have you done maintenance that opened the cooling system? If so maybe the system did not have all of the air purged from it, and you are working coolant from the reservoir into the voids. If the oil/fluids are not milky, not running hot and there are no external leaks I would certainly not hesitate to drive it. If there is a problem it will show itself.

 

Any excusive white smoke from the exhaust( more than condensation)? Could be a head gasket, does it heat up at all? And my last thought is the radiator cap leaking under pressure do you smell anti freeze at anytime?..... Tedd
