Convertible top switch Up and Down

71 442. pressed Down on the switch switch to raise/close the top. Top closed to within an inch or two of being near enough to close the rest of the way with the latch & hook, but I could not get it there even by trying to pull the roof down manually.. Down switch didn't close it all the way but then pressing Up on the switch got it to close the rest of the way. What's happening there ?

The top pump may be low on fluid.

Well that ain't right. You should have to press UP to raise the top.

DOH. Silly me. Long weekend. I meant to say that Up closed it almost all the way, but not close enough to manually use that latch to secure. I then pressed Down open again and start over, but instead of raising the top, it closed it the rest of the way.

FWIW- my 68 ( had 2 now, both operated the same) will close to about an inch and then I pull it down and latch it. Never any problems or side effects, seems normal to me.

gotcha (am familiar with doing that)...but in this case I couldn't pull it the rest of the way...that is until 'Down' lowered it closer.
