Console colors

Hi guys,
Here's a question for the masses. Are the consoles for 70-72 cars molded in the color of the interior or are they molded in black and painted the interior color?
I have a brown console and have to change it to black. Some of the brown paint is chipped and it shows black underneath. Also the underside of the console is black. Is this from the factory like this, or did someone paint it along the way?
If it was painted, does anyone know if theres a way to strip off the brown paint without damaging the plastic? Or would it be best to just paint it black again.
Open for suggestions and comments.

They are molded in the black material and painted. If yours hasn't been REpainted before just CLEAN THE HECK OUT OF IT (scrub, scrub, hot hot water....scrub some more...you get the idea...you can't overclean it).

DON'T use any of those Purple Power, Castrol, etc "supercleaner"/degreasers....just use Dawn dishwashing soap and re-shoot it. There are threads on this site detailing the typical repaint process for these types of parts.
