? for computer guys...

....I had my laptop plugged into my radio in my shop via the headphone jack on the laptop - was listening to i-tunes - after I unplugged it and took it back in the house, the speakers on the laptop no longer work - I've checked everything I know and can't find why they aren't working - anybody got any ideas?

P.S. - the headphones still work!

Do what fixes everything, restart.

I'm no PC expert or even an amateur so....
Go to start then control panel then the sounds control panel deal and see if it's muted?
I'm always hitting the mute button by the volume control on my keyboard by mistake.
The little speaker icon gets a red line through it.

I know the volume/mute button on our laptop broke a year ago. Luckily, the computer was still under warranty. From my understanding, laptops have problems with the speakers going bad, or the cables connecting the actual computer and screen/speakers. Hope you can get it fixed.

If its not too late...& you may have tried this...

Try plugging/unplugging the headphone jack a few times and turning it when plugged in.
I've seen 2 failures like this:
1. The jack has little internal contacts that act like a switch. When you plug in it breaks contact to the speaker circuit. Sometimes it gets worn/broken and doesn't re-engage when you remove the plug. Cure is to replace just the little jack (a pain if its integrated into a board)
2. Dirt/grime gets in the jack and does the same thing. I've pulled out little pieces of paper, dust, dirt,etc.. and have had some luck squirting a little canned air in the jack.

Hope this helps !

Indy - I think what you say makes sense - I bet the plug IS screwed up somehow - that would explain everything - I'll mess with it and see what happens - looks like it would be a pain in the a** to replace!!
