Cold weather driving?
Cold weather driving?
This may be a dumb questions, but what is the coldest weather you would drive your Oldsmobile in?
We are having hit or miss weather hear in Kansas City. Its 60 one day and 25 the next. I just got my 72 Cutlass so I'm going through the "honeymoon" phase where I want to drive it all the time. I need to register it and tomorrow's forecast is is a sunny high of 39 low of 15. Roads are clean (no salt or snow).
Do you think it would be safe to drive it or should I just be patient and keep it safe in the garage for another week.
Thanks

Not a dumb question at all. I really like that fact that you have that kind of love affair going with your car. That means you'll make the right choices about what constitutes a high risk for it. IMO, if you have hot or cold weather, it doesn't matter. My only criteria for something that's not a DD is that the roads are clear and dry. Enjoy it all you can. I don't like taking mine out in the rain, but i don't have any control over when Ma nature decides to dump on it. I won't however let Old Man Winter touch my baby.
Before my Olds I had a 72 Eldorado as a DD and a 71 Coupe Deville weekend driver, both with typical GM cold weather systems and Q jet. Both started up and ran well in single digit weather. My Olds I put away in early December so it's maybe uper twenties. I have an open element air cleaner on an AFB, it takes longer before it runs it's best, runs fine if I'm gentle on the gas for a few miles. If all the stock cold weather systems are working the cold shouldn't be a problem. Salty winter roads are the problem. Once put away I don't drive it again until March.
