Chrome spoke wheels

Been setting around doing mostly nothing as I recuperate and I noticed that my bank account has grown since I've not gone any where or done anything to spend much money on, it's time to buy something with Bling on it.I noticed a fine looking 55 Buick with chrome spoke wheels at the last show and he had the original sales slip that showed the wheels as an accessory item. I want some! That is only if they were offered on Olds also. I know Caddies also could be special ordered with spokes but I have never seen a 55 Olds with them . Any one know for sure if they could be had on a Olds in 55?

I'm also thinking about some Coker 3 inch wide whites radials to mount on those wire wheels. I know 3 inch is wasn't a stock item but they could be special ordered at that time period and they do make those chrome wheels pop. What do you know and what do you think? Here is a picture of the Buick

Tedd, I know a fellow in Austin that Loves
those Buick verts. He was saying they didn't build
very many at all, and are very rare. Along with the wheels.
He told my Caddillac made some of the spoked wheels as well.
I think he may have a set? I will check with him if you like, Adam.

Tedd:

I am about 100% sure that Olds did not have any wire wheels in 1955 or any year close to it. I know Buick did and Packard did and I think Cadillac did too. The Buick wheels were probably a carry over from the 1953 Skylark. I believe those were made by Kelsey Hayes. I just looked on the website and they have wire wheels for Buick, Chrysler and Packard. The Buick wheels would probably work and you could probably do something to change the Buick logo. The will relieve you of some excess cash at $580/each. Here is the website.

Geese ....At almost $600 bucks a pop I will need to stay sick for a bit longer. Tru-Blue could you check for me on that probable set in Austin? But truley the purest and being a bit frugal makes me think maybe OEM wheels and 3 inch wide whites may be in order and forget the bling. Thanks all.....Lost in the fifties...Tedd

Here are a couple sets of original wire wheel covers. One set is NOS and they are priced very high and way above market. The other set is $400 and they are pretty banged up. The NOS ones have been out there a while and I imagine they will continue to be out there.

Tedd I spoke with Billy today about
the spokes. He said he had a set of four, $1000.
Not bad at all. From the Caddy line I believe.
Send me a pm, I will give you his phone #, Adam.

Don't do it Ted, you will regret it, they are hard to balance and a pain in the **** to keep clean. Spend the money on something else you'll thank me later.

Adam, The more I think about it the more I am tending to go with the 3 inch wide whites on OEM wheels. I catch hell every time I show the car with the non original wheels and no white walls, seems most expect wide whites on a stock car but if the chrome spokes aren't stock for Olds I'll feel weird about it even if the average person doesn't know. Thanks for your help and 1000 bucks would be a good price......Tedd
