Here's a few pics I took of this car when I was there on Saturday. It caught my eye as well.

Looking at that sheet on the dash, I am sticking with "less than fully forthcoming and honest."

To the mildly interested non-expert, it says this car came with the W31 OAI package.

The FACTS should be CLEARLY set forth in any and all advertising.

This is, at best, misleading.

Hey, yeah, see my '69 F-85 here? Yeah, it's got the factory W31 OAI parts! ALL ORIGINAL. Auto trans too- you could not even GET that option on the original 442's! That's how badass this car is. It's a numbers matching car with all original drivetrain. The factory emblems are still in place on the fenders there. Not many W31's like this. No other W31 came from the Canada plant, either. It's hella rare. The harmonic balancer is a special part, wider than many. Plus, it gots that "Golden Rocket" engine [nudge, wink]. Oh and power steering.

All that appears to be accurate in describing this car, yet misleading.

That dash sign (which was replaced later in the week) requires only two changes. Delete the word "Cutlass" (though this is a common error due mainly to being uninformed and not particularly misleading) and type the word "added" after "W-31 ram air induction". Then the sign would be 100% accurate (I assume, having not seen the car in person).

Of course, these changes would likely drop the asking price by 50% or more...

Well, presumably it's no reserve, so the people will decide the asking price. And they're always right.

Assuming the people are properly educated...

There are lots of people with waaaay more money than brains, unfortunately. Witness the dot-com bubble, the housing bubble, etc.

When clones that almost slipped through as being real garner that much coin, I care - especially if the new owner doesn't have a clue and tries to sell it in the future.

But I also shouldn't care what I can't control.

I simply am flabbergasted at the price for such a perfumed pig.

This owner will likely find out quickly that the car is bogus. Expect to see it on ebay soon, similar to a certain 1964 "pilot car" (what is it with green cars?). There will likely be a fabricated story about a one-off Canadian-built car for a GM of Canada executive or something.

Clone aside, how was the rest of the car? Paint, interior, chrome? If thats all in very nice condition Id say that car was a good buy. No worries about its value, drive the thing every day. Just because its a clone doesnt mean its a 5,000 dollar car. A Chevy in that shape would probably bring the same if not more. And dont we always bitch about Olds not bringing the money?

I agree, its not a bad price if the car looked as good in real life and up close.

Check out the selling price on this one:

I'm considering driving back out there with my 1972 Cutlass vert to see what I can get since these guys are so loose with their $$$'s.

I didn't inspect cars in that manner, but I know someone who knows his stuff is there and he pointed out via photos some things that would go over most people's heads.

The ragtop DaliLama posted the link for was a perfumed pig whose selling price may be more insulting than the green car's. Not sure what you know about these cars, but there's so much that's wrong with it already yet it sold for more than the market value of a stock 4-4-2 ragtop? Negro, please!

The white/gold W-30 ragtop (clone) is currently on TV and hit $74k:

Sorry, but the spoiler is a red flag. And then there's the 3.91/AC combo. Either someone took liberties, or it's a fake W-30 ragtop. I don't recall any docs.

I highly doubt the folks shelling out stupid money for cars at BJ are going to be driving them daily. These are folks looking for a ready-made "car show" car.

Here's an interesting tidbit about the BJ auction. One of the local news channels reported there would be 250,000 people attending, at a ticket price of $25 per person.

250,000 x $25 = $6.25 million on admission fees alone.

Then you have to factor in the ungodly vigorish the house takes on each transaction. What a great business model!

Uh, many cars at that show are far from show ready. Most of the Olds pics Ive seen from this year need a lot of help.

The point of my post was that car was a good buy. Looks clean, cant build one for that, AND there is no remorse over actually driving it. Take it pure stock racing.

That orange vert was a pretty bad car. Sort of W30 stripes that weren't even close.....

Lots of little details. Couldn't believe how high it went. Sad.

There are maybe three or four nice Oldsmobiles there, but most are really poorly cobbled together cars. I almost feel sorry for them.....

My favorite is the matador red 70 post car. I'd love to have that one.......

Oh and I didn't see any $25 tickets. Maybe for Sunday after everything is gone?

I paid $65 each for the tickets for tomorrow. Still enjoy the experience. So much car stuff to look at and crazy people to watch. I go into over load.

Marxjunk, if you end heading out here next year alone, let me know, you are more than welcome to hang out with us "townies".

It is a lot of fun, so much to look at......

Oh, I didn't know that. Never been there and don't watch it on TV. I thought everything there was massively overpriced, whether show, collector, or investment level cars.

Lower door fit of a $140k auction car......sigh. This car also had really bad stripes too.

I don't think that $24,000 (plus fees) is too much money for that car. We all know it isn't real, but it does look pretty darn nice and if someone gave you a decent '69 f85, you can't get it to that condition for $24,000.00.
That steering wheel is the same as in my '69 "S" post.

While I'm far from being an appraiser, I think the rattlecan prep of the F-85 would require more scrutiny before judging from the lens of a camera.

Just watching some BJ. Why do they put this crap on tv? They mentioned they had been on this week for 36 hours. What the hell for? It's not good TV IMO. I'd rather watch whatever Velocity was going to have on instead. It's like I'm missing all my favorite shows. They don't go over what I want to know about and half the time they're wrong. Not watching anymore.
