Cars seen on Fresno streets‏ Thurs. Apr. 22/10

The following pictures were taken by a guy named Rick from Fresno, CA on Thursday, April 22, 2010. He likes driving around the Fresno area, taking pictures of cars that interest him. I've seen a few e-mails of his finds.

Attention 442 owners... Rick is going to put these 1967 issue Black California Plates up for sale soon on e-Bay.
These plates were originally installed on a 1968 Plymouth.
B.T.W. The red stuff on the front plate is blood from a Ford guy Rick had to run over, "because he wouldn't get out of the way fast enough!"

Very Cool!
I'll let you know when they are for sale.

Well Rick has put his plates up for sale. I must say that I think his opening bid is too high. I would have started it out a $20.00 and see where it went from there. He must be going for the California crowd (that still have some money in their pockets). Apparently, old California plates are a big deal to many collectors.

My Ford Buddy Tom said, "Ive seen plates go for $150.00 to $500.00. Not my call and I think $79.00 is a fair price. Like I say, most black and gold sets go for over $150.00 to $175.00. I have paid $200.00 for a pair. I was lucky and paid $165.00 for a 1956. There was a guy wanted $700.00 for a restored set of AAE plates, way out of what I could ever pay for a set. None of my business, but that is not a high price for California plates.
Some states like Michigan or Ohio sell sets for less than $35.00. I sold some junkie black and gold plates over $100.00."

It's only only cool if you have the original black and gold CA plates still on on the car since new.
My car had the original blue CA plates on it with a 1/4 inch thick stack of renewal stickers on the corner of the rear one. The front plate suffered back in '89 when a lady slid through and stop in the rain and a T-bone type incident occured.
I hate when I slide through a stop and hit an L.A. cop driving his Vista Cruiser to work that he bought brand new.

Olds67: I like this replica.

This is a 1967 Model Year License Plate similiar to the black plates California issued in the 1960s. It's a standard size plate, made of heavy gauge aluminum and features embossed letters and numbers.
This replica is for show only as it is not street legal. I've seen them displayed on front bumpers in the same location where regular plates are attached. They answer the question "What year is that car?"

It is cool to see all of the old license plates. I would like to get an authentic license plate for my 71 Olds 98 someday over the rainbow. $70-$120 wouldn't be too expensive IMHO. Anything more and they would have to be in top notch condition.
