Carlisle - First Timer - Any good insight?

Headed to PA for the GM Nationals for the first time. Looking for any good information, tips, tricks, things to avoid (besides JAIL) and things not to miss (besides anything OLDS related). Only going to have one full day so want to maximize my time there if possible and not spend all day walking in circles . Thanks!

Well it may be a little disappointing for you. The Olds parts are really scarce and so are the Oldsmobiles on display. I think Saturday is the best day to go. It is a LOT smaller than the Spring and Fall events. I doubt you will get lost or miss anything at this one. Expect little and you may have some fun there.

Yeah, GMs @ Carlisle has been somewhat disappointing the last few years. I'm not going to make it this year due to other commitments. I did notice that they've been advertising heavily in many magazines, so maybe it will be better this year. Of course, when it was larger, it was Camaros @ Carlisle, but since the Camaro club split and now holds their own show on the same weekend, it's been pretty small.

One word of advice. If you have your car in the Oldsmobile part of the showfield, DO NOT park near the guy with the Ghostbusters-themed Custom Cruiser. He starts the soundtrack then leaves for the day, and after about 15 minutes it gets REALLY annoying.

I was at this show in '07 with my SX ragtop and it was very light compared to my annual pilgrimage to Corvettes at Carlisle in August. If you sense there is going to be heavy traffic into the event, here's a fail-safe alternate route to avoid sitting in a couple miles of event traffic:

Make a left off of the PA turnpike ramps after the toll booth instead of right, which is where the lemmings are going to go to their potential frustrated, overheating deaths. After merging onto that road (you'll see a Pilot and other truckstops on the right), go about 1/2 mile and make a left onto N. Middlesex Rd. (the light that has Arby's on the left). Make the second left onto Clemson (watch your speed), take that a mile or so to a right on Wolf Bridge Rd. Take that a half mile and make a left onto W. Middlesex Rd. That drops you out on Rt. 34 - go left onto 34 south which takes you to the back gate of the fairgrounds in 3-4 minutes.

Enjoy!

I will be there tomorrow through Sunday with my cutlass. Hopefully there will be a better turnout this year. Sorry to hear you won't be there Joe.

The event guide is online, so you can review prior to going and map out things.

http://www.carlisleevents.com/carlis...-Nationals.pdf

Of course pick up the paper version at the gates.

And check it out - a 71 442 on the cover !!!! And should be on all the merchandise as well. Nice !

I plan to be there with my Final 500 Alero.
