Car won't start
hey guys, new to the site. can't figure out how to start a new thread so just posting to the closest thing. i have 72 cutlass supreme with a 350 Rocket V8. and it is not starting. new battery, alternator, starter, fresh oil and filter. it does have a choke installed. has half a tank of fuel. when you try to start it, it literally does nothing. no lights on the dash, no clicking, can't even get the horn to chirp. i'm running out of options. could it be the ignition switch? or maybe a fuse? bad battery cables? it ran before but it would just die out on its own after a couple minutes and now there is literally nothing. anything helps! thanks.

Instead of tacking on to an existing thread started by someone else, all you need do is:
1- click on the Forums tab at the upper left of the screen.
Then 2- choose which forum in which you want to post bu clicking on it.
3- Now click on the New Thread tab on the upper left of your screen.
4- Lastly, your post a meaningful title and put in your text.

72 Cutlass supreme - not starting
Hey folks, I have a 72 Cutlass supreme with a 350 rocket v8 with choke that will not start. New battery, alternator, starter, fresh oil and filter. No dash lights, no horn, no headlights or wipers. Does not try to turn over, does not click, crank or anything. It did start back in March for about 2 minutes at a time and would just die out on its own. Half tank of gas in it. Bad Ignition switch? Bad Battery cables? Bad fuse(s)? It was my wife's 1st car and it's been sitting for roughly 10 years. Thanks in advance 😊

From your other post:
Sounds as if there is no connection from the battery to the electrical system.
Start tracing power from the battery positive terminal through the wiring. There must be an open somewhere.

Look on the Fire wall for a relay with a cluster of wires. One should be red about 10 gauge coming off the battery terminal. See if you have power there. If not there's your problem if so let us know. There is a rod that goes to a harness on the bottom of the steering column. That could be out of adjustment too.

If you don't have a volt meter you better get one. If you have bad connections in your main cables I'm sure you will have more elsewhere. How long has the car sat? Sometimes a unused vehicle will get a lot of rodent damage to the wiring. Electrical problems are about the hardest thing to fix on a car. Sometimes it's easier to put in a complete new wiring harness. Anyway start with where the battery cables go and clean and re-attach them. You could have the hot wire just fine but if you don't have a good ground it will be like you don't have a battery in the car.
