Car Show Scoring

Saw this W30 via eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oldsmobile-C...m=201405450307

They say that it scored 998/1000 at Bowling Green. I'm unfamiliar with any of the events and therefore don't know about scoring and how it all works. I got to wondering about the process and wanted to know if they would have been notified where they missed the 2 points to make it perfect, or if the judges never inform you what the deficiencies were.

Very nice W30. Already over $100k.

Not sure I can answer your question but as nice as the car is I am surprised they forgot to install a set of front fender braces for a big block car.

I was surprised they had so much dirt on the driver's side floor. I'd definitely knock some points off for that.

Is it just me, or does the side striping look too narrow?

Eric, I think the verts did not have the braces. Interesting that there is a exhaust manifold to head bolt missing on the RH side.

The "already over $100K" is meaningless since the reserve hasn't yet been met. For all we know, the seller has shills who've run the bidding up to just under the reserve. Unless the auction closes with a sale and cash changing hands, any bid number is meaningless.

Yes, I would agree. It also runs up hill on the quarters. Also in couple of pictures the car in the rear is sitting to high. Not to sure about the steering wheel it has something on it.

We have to bare in mind the Bowling Green was 8 years ago so things like dirt could and will happen! If was driven! and I believe that dirt is weatherproofing as the dealer has listed on the invoice.

Speaking of the invoice, no invoice number and the car is listed as used?

The seat belt re-tractor, I don't see the male part of the buckle (part of deluxe lap belt?)

If it was me the stripe would be at least a 5 point deduction.

Pat

Your wisdom never gets old, Joe. Good point!

The judges' sheet should list both the category and reason for any points deduction.

That being said, a different set of judges, on a different day, might differ as to the number of points to be deducted, the categories where deducts might be taken and the reason for the deducts.

Question Curious...

I wonder why the trans VIN derivative number picture is the only one that is "un-zoomable..."

This is good to know. That has to be a tough deal when you fix your deficiencies after one show only to find out that at another show they find something else wrong.

I'm not sure I could do that. I know when I take one of my vehicles in for service, it almost feels like I have a friend in surgery. I could only imagine how it feels trying to get a perfect score at a show. Would stress me out a little.

I sure did not know that. Now I know why the 71 442 convertible and 71 SX convertible I had did not have them.

On most judged events if they forget to list the defects you get the points back if you protest.Otherwise how would you know how to finish your car.... Tedd

No braces on the converts.....and none on this car since I helped put the fenders on the darn thing along with a jillion other items on the car.

So was it even close to reserve? I see it didn't meet.

What difference does it make? A "bid" under reserve is meaningless. For all we know, it was a shill bid by the seller anyway.

Thought 70Post might have a clue as to what they were wanting to get out of the car since he did some of the work on it. Was just curious, that's all.

Hard to know exactly what $/number buys the car. I did see it again in person at last years MCACN show in Chicago (last fall) and I believe it had a price on it but I didn't pay attention to that. I was more interested in seeing how various items were holding up on the car and looking at various details.

The owner wasn't with the car when I was looking it over (there is A LOT at that show to look at) so never got the chance to talk with him.

Cars like this, being uber-rare in the Oldsmobile world, are typically priced WAY up there. If I had to guess the asking price is closer to $200k or higher.....who knows??. Don't put any faith in the accuracy of my guess, it's just that.

Sorry about lack of info on the pricing.
