Car show registration fees going up?

Is it just me or have others experienced some of their local shows raising registration fees?

It's still a little early to tell about all of them.I have received mailers for 2 that I like to attend and fees have gone up $5.
Last year was $15 pre-registration,$20 day of show.
This year is $20 pre-registration,$25 day of show.

Every where I turn, people, entities or businesses are trying to reach further into my pocket.

I've seen it a little, here and there. It's frustrating, too, that the main attractions have to pay to be the show. It would be nice if, instead, the viewers got charged to see the show.

I am hosting a car show in May in Big Lake MN on May 22nd. The fees are the same as they have been the last 6 years...$10.00 and this year all proceeds go to the local veterans.
Crazy to raise fees...isn't high gas prices enough.. Speaking of fuel, we are giving away two 50.00 gift fuel cards.

I'm president of the local car club in Windsor. We get asked why the participants are charged as well as spectators. We have kept our car registration fee at $10.00 for the past 20 years. We use a majority of that money for trophies, dash plaques, door prizes, DJ, security, paramedics, etc. We keep the spectator admission at about $5.00. Any money left over we donate to ALS.

It's getting harder and harder to raise money for any charity with expenses going up all the time. It is also getting harder to get companies to contribute as a major sponsor with the economy being what it is. I can remember back in the 90's we would donate anywhere from $8-$10,000.00 per year to the chosen charity. Now it's more like $3,000.00.

Our show in the Town of Olds is still $10 for members and $20 for non-members. There is no charge for the public. We only have 5 awards. Long Distance, Long Distance Non-Member, Oldsest Oldsmobile at Olds, the Mayors Choice and a certificate issued by the attanding RCMP officer (The Car I'd Most Like To Commandeer In a High Speed Chase). That sounded more positive than "The car I last like to Chase..."

For clubs to buy trophies, trophies have gone up in price. Our club voted last year that the awards mentioned were all that were required. They don't want classes or voting, just a relaxing time. So that's how we do it. This is our club's 20th anniversary. Our first show was $10 members $15 Non-members. So we havent change that much. Besides, because of our shorter season (May - Oct) there are cruise nights every night of the week except Sunday, Monday. So we get our fix of showing our cars.

From what I've seen so far around here, it looks like the prices are still about the same. Most are $10.00, some $8.00. Not bad.

Good Guys when from $25 for members two $35. Then there is a church in the comunity, has a show, is free, and if you bring a car you get free lunch, and $6 for lunch if no car. They started out with about 12 cars when they started, and now limited it to about 200, it's a nice show.

Join a car show, expect to be charged excessively.

I only go to the free car meets because I'm not paying to park my car and have a
bunch of old farts come widdle through it and nit pick. Screw that.
I go to just check out the cars, and see if I can get any customizing ideas.

I don't need a nobody trophy to stroke my ego. lol

The last show at the Chicago Stephenson Convention center MCACN I didn't even go to.
They wanted $15+ a head plus $15 to park. Screw that......$50 to go look at what I can
go look at for free out in town all summer. Not my thing....

A few months back, I saw a sign on the exit ramp of the freeway that said "car show". So of course we went to go check it out. A few miles up the road, we see the show, all about 20 cars or so and go to park. A guy runs up and tells us "$40" We asked what for. He said entry fee, $20 per person. I tell him I'm not entering my 5 year old daily driver pick-up into a classic car show, we're here just to check it out. His answer? "$40 to park and you can walk around all you want". My answer to that? I drove off and just did a drive by tour of the show.

That's Capitalism for ya.

Don't feel bad, I'd have balked at them asking for $40 myself and laughed in the guys face.
There's plenty of FREE cruise nights to go cruise to that there's no need to fork out $$$ for a parking spot.
