Car Ramp recommendations?

I am looking to get a good strong set of ramps for maintenance on the 66 98 LS. I need something that will handle the weight.

Normally I would jack up one of my cars in the garage but my garage is too small to jack this bad boy up in.

I would idealy like something that is solid and not the metal type. They make me nervous.

Somthing like this.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have a set of plastic ones i bought at a local parts store a few years back. They have a plastic honeycomb structure under/inside them- I think they are great. Were about $20

I have a set of heavy steel ones (9000 lb) with detachable ramps.
Handy for getting more work room. They are very heavy and sturdy. They are so old they have "made in USA" stamped in them...
Here they are in action!

I do not like the thin one piece ones that look like they will buckle on ya...

I've always used these wood ramps my Grandpa made years ago. Pretty much he just used a bunch of 2x12's or 10's stacked on each other. They are not at my house right now so I can't get any dimensions. They are probably older than me and they have held up very well.

I was wondering because if you go to the Rhino Ramp website the tops are smooth.

Just a heads up,

Personally I don't care for ramps,I bought a set once and tried using them once, had my mishap and threw them away...fast.

In order to get the car to climb the ramps you have to give the car a fair amount of gas,well...I gave it a little to much gas,the wheels then climbed the ramp and didn't stop on the level top portion, kept going right on over and fell off the other side. Luckily there was no fender damage,it was a close call and a learning lesson,no more ramps for me.

Would that be a faulty ramp or the person controlling the machine?????

I have used ramps for years and never had an issue. I just don't trust a steel one for a vehicle this size.

Yup! totally my fault. The important thing is I learn from my mistakes, that's why I threw the ramps away so I could avoid ever being put in that situation again.

I wish mine were a little taller- I "THINK" Rhino makes a 4x4 ramp that is taller- might look into it on their site.

I've also had one or two ramp mishaps- it take a little getting used to. Many times i simply jack up the car by the engine cradle or diff housing, slide the ramps under the wheels and then let hte car down.

As long as its not a job that requires the wheels to hang free (like brakes) I much prefer the car up on ramps to jack stands. Even with my monster 6-ton jack stands it still freak me out to be under.

Usually the car ramps are taller becuase 4x4s give enough clearance with their ride height already.

I use my floor jack and jack stands. A couple of pumps on the front cross member and the car is high enough to put the jack stands under the frame. No ramps in the way I prefer this method, at least until I can get a shop build and install a car lift

I would also prefer that method but unfortunately my garage doesn't have enough room to use a jack and stands with this beast in it. LOL
