Marine grease will work well, if the environment is relatively dry any grease will work well.

You can put grease on it if you want but it is a mess to clean off. To be honest with you I have seen more parts with corrosion under layers of grease than I have seen it do any good. I have cranks and cams that have been sitting for 10 years with just a light spray of WD40 and they look just like when I put them there. What is probably more important than anything is to keep the temperature fairly constant wherever you are storing them . I keep my shop between 68 and 70 degrees 24/7/365 and nothing ever rusts.
