Calling all experts

I need help identifying my T400 tranmission. I am betting it isn't original.

What am I looking for when looking at a 1970 442 T400?

Thanks

The VIN stamped into the trans is a key identifier and the trans tag will have an application code as well as a production number sequence.

What application code should I be looking for?

The bottom left corner of tag will have a 70 for 1970 and an OG. The pic shows an OC (different application), but this should help you figure it out.

Cool! Now I know it's not the original transmission.

What's my best option? Look for another 442 to part out for the transmission? Beef up the T400 I already have? ???

The TH400 is a fairly strong transmission and can handle upwards of around 500 ft lbs of torque or more. Unless you plan on racing, I would just rebuild it if needed.
