dose anyone know were to get remanufactored a/c compressors with correct decales an markings.

 

I'm looking for the same thing. I want to keep the original stock look, but would like a little bit more efficient unit. I saw some remanufactured units on Year-One, OPGI, and I think the Parts-Place.

Not sure which one to get. Does anyone have any experience with these?

 

I THINK there's an outfit out of Ft Worth (Old Air Products) that manufactures an aluminum A6 Look-a-like that is a 5 cylinder rotary internally. Visually externally looks the same as the original A6. Decals you should be able to get from Fusick's. Good luck. I am going with a Sanden conversion on the Silver Bullet. Weighs about 7 lb's and takes about 7 HP; the original A6 is 32 lb's and 25 HP when engaged!

 

I went Sanden on my silver car...I haven't hook up the hoses yet but I'm glad to see it only robs 7 HP

I have the stock compressor available to anyone that wants to pay shipping. You could have it remanufactured if you don't already have a stock unit.

 

Really doubt you're gonna find a compressor with the labels on it, but as mentioned can try repros, or even transfer the old labels with a little heat. The shaft seals on A6's are real leakers, and probably good going with something else. Curious where the compressor hp ratings are coming from, as most car A/C's are less than 2 tons(typical 3 bedroom ranch home 2-3 tons), at about 1 hp per ton capacity. It usually takes about 20 hp to keep a car cruising at highway speeds, so somethings not right here.

 

DeltaPace: What I meant to say is that when the A6 compressor "kicks in/turns on" there is an immediate feeling of how hard the car engine is turning/working (actual decrease in RPM?) with a noticable "lack of power", thus the approximation of losing 25 HP when the A6 is engaged. Do not mean to imply that the A6 is a 25 HP motor, at all. The Sanden unit should hardly be noticable when it engages.

 

I went ahead and purchased a remanufactured stock GM A6 compressor from YearOne for $199. Looks dead on with the original, except the stickers of course.

 

Good idea when putting things back together, to give the system a UV trace dye shot. Easiest way to find system leaks later, by just scanning around with a UV light source.

 

Classic Auto Air, reman's A-6 compressors the right way.(I've had problems with rebuilds from 2 of the larger rebuilders)..and they sell the compressor Aaron is referring to, which is a "plug n play" for our cars, and does save a ton of HP..
