I think in this situation,the fault is on the seller.He said it ran fine when pulled,but failed to mention that since that time,he pulled it apart,and it has been tampered with.If it was inded still sealed tight as a drum,and never been a part,then it would simply just be a bad gamble,but when parts are missing inside,bolts loose,etc.,that is a different story.

I'd be really skeptical buying olds engine off people that aren't on this site. At least i know you guys will be honest with what i've got ahead of me.

Speaking of which, i plan on eventually rebuilding my engine, anyone think if i send it out for a acid bath and hone that i can do the rest on my own?

I doubt I'll use either of the 350 blocks that I've got.

For a bit more effort, I'll just get the 425 going.

Oh, after complete disassembly, the block, as I said, had one badly rust-damaged cylinder that had been taken down with a grinder and the crank, though essentially unworn, had a ding in one crank journal, corresponding to the edge of a bearing shell, where someone had obviously beat on a piston with a hammer, so that's a core, too.

Basically, I just paid for the privilege of taking out this guy's garbage.
I did get the usual load of bolt-ons, though, from starter to air cleaner, which are always good as trading stock.

That's the way it goes sometimes.

Anyway, if nobody bites on my parts for sale offerings, a large load of it, along with a seized F-rd flathead and a few other items, will get me my money back, and then some, at the scrapyard.

Sorry you had to go thru that. If you feel like posting his c/l ads we can flag the crap out of them so noone else gets taken by this guy.

 

I consider any used engine purchase as a total crap shoot, you never know what kind of a mess you are going to have to deal with.
I once got a great deal on a used 454, got it home and it had so much frozen water in it it took 2 days to get it thawed enough to get the pan off. It was rusty but nothing that couldn't be repaired.
