Build Thread for My Gal's 67 442 Real 5VY

Car was purchased as part of a package deal of 9 cars from an old friend. Details are: Real Lansing built, 5VY, Correct E block with VG C heads, Drive train rebuilt with frame all cleaned and painted, suspension all rebuilt including new bushings, joints, tie rods, springs, shocks brakes and brake lines, fuel lines and on and on. Rear end is a TO code 3:90 Open but has a posi now. Will change to a 3:08 or 3:23 posi. Has an M20 date code correct but not sure if original. All new mounts, clutch, u-joints and such. Body was off when purchased. Floors in the trunk and most of the interior except the hump and firewall were replaced. All still good except the left rear foot area of the floor. We cleaned that up today and will replace that section. We are going to lift the body off and seam seal the floor underneath and paint the underside. Then will put back on with new mounts. After I replace the small section of the LR floor, I will clean and seam seal the floors and paint the entire interior. Nice that the inside is all out. It is an original bucket seat with headrests, console, 4 speed car. I did get all of that in good condition as well. Ron Roth to restore a dash for us. Already have new carpet, headliner and seat upholstery for it. I have a very nice set of factory door panels as well. Decoded it has factory rear window defogger which I will install. I will replace the radio with one of the new electronic direct replacement units that fit and plug in. I just ordered one of those for my convertible as well. Car has factory Rally 1 wheels and we will run 225/70SR14 T/A radials. Originally antique pewter with black vinyl top and black interior. Will be very close to that. We will use "House of Kolor's" Galaxy Grey and black vinyl top. We will add a little purple pearl to the clear. Engine is stock built except for headers and 2 1/2" exhaust with flow masters. I will be posting pictures as I go. It is too bad someone sanded the car down but did not put anything on it to protect it. So we get to do lots to get the body prepared. Just a little rust at the front and back glass areas otherwise it is very solid.

I will keep you all posted as we go.

Larry

trunk lip panel in will need a little finish work when time for finish paint comes but otherwise done.
Trunk floor seam sealed and painted with por15. After car is painted will paint with trunk spatter paint.

Very nice. The Pewter paint on the cowl looks awesome...assume original? It is great seeing another 1967 442 being brought back to life. Thanks for sharing pics...keep 'em coming :-)

I haven't done much in the past week or two on her car. I did gather parts and inventory them to figure out what we need and don't need. I lift the body off again this coming week for the final time. (had to put it back on to move it all) I will seam seal the bottom and clean and paint it all. I plan to do a few things to the chassis while it is body free as well. I will install the power steering gear instead of manual, I will also mount the exhaust and check everything one more time. I am going to change the rearend as well. Then it will go back under the body for the final time. Already have the body bushings and bolts, core support is cleaned and painted as well as the inner fenders. I will paint the firewall and door jambs while the body is off. Two bad door hinges will get replaced and will paint the jambs on the trunk as well. The paint on it is the original antique pewter. I am going to use house of kolor galaxy gray and we will put some purple in the clear for her. It was a compromise on both of us. I wanted to stay totally factory and she wanted something like Mopar Plum Crazy. So, I consider it a win. I will get more pics posted as we go.

Thought I would keep you all posted.

Thanks for the encouragement,

Larry

Not much new to post other than now that the Turnpike Cruiser has left the shop I now have some room. I am going to start building the body rack. Once done I will pull the body off one last time to finish the seam sealing and painting of the underside. I will also do a few more things on the chassis then back on and on the fast track to getting her running.

Thinking about selling it.

We were thinking of selling this for a while. Health issues and other things were getting in the way. I am hoping to get back to working on this in the next week or so. We are no longer thinking of selling it.

After some health and family emergency issues I am finding a new burst of energy on this car. I plan to get back to working on it in the next week or so.

I will post some new pictures once we get it back in the active mode.

Wish us lots of energy and luck

I happy to hear your health issues, and family issues are hopefully resolved. It will be good therapy to work on the 67, cant wait to see some pictures of the progress.
Good, God bless you and your family.

Thanks Steve,

Here it is back in the shop all unwrapped and a fresh coat of paint on the engine. Will be assembling it over the next few weeks.

We are excited to start it up.

Haven't had the energy to get huge amounts done but a little here and there. Need to rebuild the carb. Making sure I have all the correct parts and pieces. Here is the carb numbers, distributor numbers, and a more current engine picture.

Chemo treatments been knocking the energy out of me but when I feel good I have been working on it. Hoping to get it running in the next month or so.

Just thought I would post a few updated pictures.

Everything clean and new. Looking great! You mentioned the car having headers. Are you going to keep those on?

For now we are. Someone did allot of work to make them fit nice even trimming the upper control arms a little. I love the sound but hate home much they leak and require attention. For now they will stay. If they become too much work I will put stock manifolds on it. We have the full exhaust system on it now. 2 1/2 inch with flowmasters.

I am going to do the Jeep GJ gear box and power brakes also. not going disc brakes for now. We will see how much we drive it. It has the original SS1 wheels and disc make that not possible so, will decide that later.

I have a few cool old school toys to add to it. More on that later.

Here is some pictures of the upper control arms having the inside edges relieved to clear the headers. Looks like it was really only needed on the right back side. Done well so no worries. The brake line junction block has been relocated to the top of the frame for clearance as well. All the brake lines and fuel lines are new.

That is a nice job, I've seen where people just beat the snot out of the header pipes to make them fit.

We are considering selling this to fund a few other things we are in need of getting done. So if someone is looking for a 67 that has all the hard stuff done and done right and with the right numbers parts this is the car. Drive train rebuilt and body back on the frame, all the parts would be included. But, it would have to fetch at least $15,000 to make it ok. At that it would be a lose.

I could get it as far as running as well.

If you know of anyone interested they can get ahold of me direct at lemoldsnut@aol.com or call 541-815-4363

Thanks
Larry
