Hey family, got to take a break from the 455 . At the end now making careless mistakes. Was checking pushrods from priming issues forgot to tighten bridge back down, rotated crank and "SNAP" #7 bridge broke . I have a 80 something toronado with sbo and a 76 cutlass with sbo at my local pull a part . So question is are oldsmobile rocker arm bridges interchangeable sbo to bbo ?

 

Yes they all interchange.

 

Try to keep the replacement used bridge and rocker arms together as an assembly so the wear surfaces aren't mixed and matched.

 

Thanks guys . Are 5a and 8 heads any good ? Because if they are ill just take the whole heads .

 

8s are big chamber 73-76, not considered very good without work, 5a's are 307 heads, only good for stock replacement on 307s

Most would have to give these away to get them out of their garage

 

The bridges are all the same, BBO or SBO, original part number 391208, superseded in 84 to 22524396, and then again in 86 to 22527956.

The rockers, not so much.

Old era rockers all interchange and new era rockers all interchange. 455, 425, 400, pre-1980 350, 78-79 350 diesel, and the 64 330 (2nd type) used rocker p/n 401384. These are used with the 5/16" ball end pushrods.

The key is, on the Olds V8 engines from 1980 on, they went to a larger socket for the push rod rocker part number 22505583 for the 3/8" ball end pushrod style rockers. I guarantee you if the rockers are stock on those 5A heads, they're for the 3/8" push rod ends.

Not all years, but when they started using bridges, then yes. I don't have any pics of the 22524396 but since it was in the middle of the supersession part number chain, I doubt if it would look any different. Why wouldn't they be the same? Stock rockers are physically all the same except for the pushrod ball cup area on the two different part numbers.
