Block to head pins

While putting in the cam and crank, in the bottom of the box of mains, I found 4 pins. I was surprised to find them, but I think the machine shop decided to do nothing more than their work since I was trying to save about a grand, building the engine myself. I have built 4 previous engines in the 90's all of which are still running fine. However, I have never installed the pins before and I can find no mention of them in the books and YouTube vids. I think I should just carefully tap them in, but I would appreciate any advice as to lube or seal or other things I should or should not use. Since there are 4, I cannot see another place other than the block to align the heads. I'm still awaiting my ring and piston installation tools They were retired years ago in a yard sale. Who knew at age 67 I would build another?

Are you referring to cylinder head alignment dowels? There many videos on removal, I did not see any referencing installation.

Make sure the pins and holes are clean and free of rust and defects and are nice and smooth. Simply tap them in with a little oil for lube and leave them proud about 3/16''-1/4''.

I lightly tapped mine in to 1/2 the length of the pin / dowel, worked out fine. I did not use any lube on my pins.

Thank you. They are super smooth now so I think they need to go in!
