Blizzard 2013

I believe I heard that Bradley airport had the highest snowfall recorded - ever. This storm was different in that everyone had significant notice. Most people were hunkered down before the roads got bad.
The snow here stopped falling almost 30 hours ago and the roads are still a mess. Most businesses remain closed. School is closed tomorrow. It will take several more days before things are cleaned up.

Lil red shovel
Here in Foxboro Ma. we got about 3 feet give or take with drifts. Iv'e been shoveling throughout the storm trying to stay ahead of it. And just think I did it all with my trusty LIL RED SHOVEL. My back is killing me.

Today, they're clean down to the asphalt, and all the sidewalks are plowed.
Not much was open yesterday, but everything is open today, even the tourist places (and it's off-season).
For comparison, I had an average of about 2½ feet in my driveway, though there were drifts to 5 feet.

Small world is right! I'm literally on the town line. I can see Live Oaks school in Milford from my back yard. About 1/2 a mile from Baybrook shopping center.

'78 started Monday @ 9am after everyone showed up for work and school...Only one weather guy said stay home and that was the famous Don Kent. The storm lasted until late Wednesday night. It went thru 6 tidal changes so the coastal damage was beyond words. 1,900 homes were destroyed. My house lost the porch and garage. Aside from the destruction it was a great time to be with family and friends and have everyone helping each other. I remember my Dad using his Firebird and Olds 88 to slam thru big piles of snow in front of neighbors driveways to clear them.....they loved it

BTW my parents' power came back on at 1:15 this afternoon. They were out about 43 hours.

We ended up with 32" by us. At least, we never lost power. The roads around here are terrible, covered in frozen snow/ice and littered with cars and trucks that got stuck and abandoned. They closed most schools around here tomorrow. Between this storm and Superstorm Sandy, the kids will be in school until July.

Went out for the first time today to get more gas for the generator, just in case. A blind man could have done a better job plowing the roads. My dead end was better than some of the main roads. We have two main roads on this island. One goes up the east side and one on the west. Both are four lanes wide, two north and two south. The East main road was 1 1/2 lanes wide today all day until 4 pm. I just don't get it. People can't drive in MA and RI as it is don't challenge them!

I hear ya George. They have done a very poor job around here too. There are still some roads around here that have not been plowed and most are just poorly done. They brought in bull dozers and pay loaders to clear the roads as some of the regular snow plow trucks are stuck too.

The world gets a little smaller.... I live on the Oyster River (drove over that bridge today). My avatar is a picture of my car with Oyster River about 20 feet away (my back yard). The state just started repairing that bridge after it took some structural damage during Sandy. That whole area was under water.

Was warm enough today and I was motivated enough to take care of some of the damage. The evergreen I thought lost 5-6 feet turned out to be more like 10-12 feet. It crushed the hedges it was so heavy so I had to cut it apart before removing it.
The GF is not happy about her hydrangea, hehe. Much of it is dead and I'm not sure it will recover. The circle of life continues.............
