bless all the old clock repairmen

They are a dying breed, but I'm glad that there are some still around.

I took a shot in the dark the other day. I removed the original clock from the dash of my '71 cutlass (as you all know, they usually stopped working 6 months out of the showroom). I really did not want to replace it with a quartz movement, but I did not know what else to do.

My wife asked why I didn't just take it to the place where she gets her watches repaired. I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT OF THAT! There is a repair shop near where we live ran by this old watch/clock repairman that spends all day at a counter with this strange monocle attached to his glasses. When I brought it in, he thought it was funny, but since everything in the clock was mechanical, he decided to give it a go.

One day and $40 dollars later, the clock is fixed and running as it should.

That's awesome. I asked a local clocksmith in my hometown one day and he told me $100 just to take it apart and look at it. I passed.

Clock repairmen are true craftsmen. I'm talking about grandfather clock repairmen. I have a 100 year old German grandfather clock that was built by a company that went out of business it 1939, it a gorgeous clock and wouldn't still be working without these dedicated professionals.
