I have a chilton manual ( waste of money) and the factory assembly manual. (good info but bulky to use) and neither of them have a wirng diagram for the car. I have made it 99% through this cosmetic restoration without it but am having some intermitent gremlins and the schematic would be nice.

Where do I get one for a `971 cutlass suppreme convertible? I appreciate all responses. I put about 150 mile on it today! what a great car on a day like today.

You need the Factory Service Manual. You can purchase one from Fusicks.

 

Along with the chassis service manual you really need to get the '71 Fisher Body manual. It has the power option stuff, covers the wiper system and lots of other good interior, glass and exterior trim stuff not covered in the CSM. It also covers the power top and a must-have if you own a convertible.
Then you wil have the coveted (and mandatory IMO) "Trilogy of Manuals".

I need to get an assembly manual then. I only have the FSM and the Chassis Service Manual for my 71 98.

 

Factory manuals can't be beat.
But, along with the manuals, go for a diagram from these folks as well.

Pick up the 11x17" laminated FULL schematics from www.classiccarwiring.com for $14

that's where I got mine. Everything is in color, and you can tack it on your man cave wall.
They are an invaluable investment to have IMO.

 

The 1971 Chassis Service Manual absolutely DOES have a wiring diagram in it. Perhaps yours has been torn out.

If you get an assembly manual you're just going to go out to the garage and fix something...any excuse to go into the garage... The wiring diagram in the CSM is in section 12, in living colour...

 

I got my schematic and it show a connection that i have been trying to find since i got the car. The plug is called the "down shift auto trans switch"

I cant seem to find where it goes. My assumtion is it plugs into the trans some where.

Can anyone tell me where to look for this connection and what it does.

That plug should be on the left side of the trans about four inches above the pan rail and half way between the shifter shaft and the speedo cable...there should also be a white plastic strap to hold the wire near the plug...
