Best engine assembly lube?

Curious what you guys like and why? I need to buy a torque angle gauge and may as well pair them together on Amazon for free shipping.

I have a jug of red permetex assembly lube that I bought years ago. It has a small brush to apply it, and I put some in a small squirt bottle for places a brush won’t reach. It’s pretty thick, it doesn’t drip off parts during storage.

STP, Casite Motor Honey, any heavy bodied oil supplement that won't run off the parts will work. I've even known people who swore by white lithium grease though that made me skittish.

My friends and I used GM EOS on recommendation of the engine guy at the local Pontiac dealer. Can you even get that now?

Thanks, I think I will try the Permatex. Some of their stuff is really good, some not so much. It sounds like their assembly lube is a good one.

I use red the permatex on the bearings or the green Lucas snot. I DO NOT like using it on the cam . That stuff drips off I use isky rev lube on lifters. I don't think people realize how that slick red or the green stuff readily available drips off the lobes. I use A light film of oil on the cylinders. And right before primer and fire up and pour half a quart of oil over the valve train per side then finalize the valve cover install once I prime the system. So the valve covers are left loose right up to the last minute. I use lubriplate on the timing chain and usually slick up the oil pump gears as well that way . Perhaps fanatical of me but I'm yet to have issues during initial start up.

I might add the permatex I'm used to using comes in the small bottle and and in my experience I wouldn't use it on a flat tappet cam. Not saying it won't work but i like the isky rev lube for the cams. Just fwiw

I plan on using ATF on the cylinders. I am using a roller cam, it will nice to use any old oil. I could use STP on the cam and roller lifters.

The green snot is pretty sticky.... a film will definitely stay on the cam!

If the engine will be started up pretty soon (say within days or a couple of weeks) then just oil is fine. Sticky stuff is good if the engine will sit for a long time before firing.
Agree on ATF for cylinders.

The only thing I won't use is lithium grease. I've seen that **** dry out and turn into a clay-like gunk. I prefer the more liquid-y stuff like the Lucas snot, to the moly grease stuff.

I have used Redline and also moly caml ube. Whenever you use moly camshaft lube, you have to change the oil and filter after 20 minutres, and again after a few miles because the lube plugs the filter.

The first oil change is going to be very short like you mentioned anyways. I will ask Mark when order the rest of the parts if Moly lube is necessary on a roller cam, new territory for me.
