OMG, this truly hideous 70 cutlass convertible comprised of 40% bonds a few inches thick and a paint job done by a blind person went for 16.5k. IF the buyer actually looks at the car they are going to be pi$$ed.

To make matters worse there is a 10% buyers premium on top of the hammer price.
BJ is nice to watch but not what I see as the core of the hobby.

Saw a red '70 W30 vert go for 120k

It was shocking to see a gorgeous 440 Superbird sell for only 105k right after it.

Unfortunately, there aren't enough of us out there and the majority gauge everything on Barrett Jackson. This creates the "I have Gold" attitude for people who have cars & or parts & don't understand our culture so they jack their numbers up.

I watched some of the earlier shows on Thurs and Fri. Saw some cars go through that were bought stupid cheap. I also understand that television can make rags look like silk.

Sometimes the bargains are to be found in the mid week period where as the weekends feature the higher dollar cars for the higher dollar buyers. Some mid week cars look to be good deals but as in any car buying you would have to be there in person to really know what you are bidding on. Bright lights and a two minute view doesn't do much to evaluate a car.... Tedd

The state of the vehicles at these auctions is just really shocking in a BAD way. There was a 63 cadillac conv that was presented as "prestine", only the lower half of the car was bubbling and cracked bondo with rust leaking out.
The maserati quatroporte cars sold i believe on friday had both been hit and BADLY repaired. Of course on stage ALL the cars change their colors and become MUCH brighter and more reflective giving the impression of newer paint.
In short, every trick in the book is used.
I really feel for the person that bought the cutlass I first mentioned. It really was a parts car.
