I am new to this car and forum so bear with me. I'm trying to remove the seat backrest on my 68 convertible and I don't want to break or tear anything. The seat bottom was easy and conventional but how do I take off the back? Are there bolts or clips that need to be accessed from the trunk? Or do I just jerk up on on it and release it from some kind of clips? I'm afraid that the shop manual is not much help.

 

Hang tight. I'll see if I can find you an illustration/diagram of the clips. Removal is from inside the passenger compartment.

Fisher Body Service Manual

 

To be honest w/ you, I pulled that image from my 1971 Oldsmobile Body By Fisher Service Manual. Since I've owned a 1967 4-4-2, 1971 4-4-2 & 1971 CS convertible best I recall all were nearly same if not identical. The image I provided you should be identical or similar between the 1968-1972 model years. It would help you to own an original OEM edition for your 1968.

Two bolts to remove at the bottom of the seat back. Get down low and you can see them, then lift the seat back straight up to remove.

 

Thanks for the tips. Just ordered the Fisher body manual and already have the shop manual and factory assembly manual. I also have a parts manual coming. Anything else I need?
