How do you install the ashtray door on a 72 cutlass? Mine fell out and want to install it properly. I have the door and the 2 shim like pieces.

 

From what I recall (it's been around 20 years since I did this) the shims go on either side of the door to provide tension. Hold them in place and push one side of the door into place until the small post pops into the hole, then manipulate the door around until the other side pops in.

 

That sounds about right. I did mine last year and it was dead simple to do.
