Arsenal of Democracy Flyover
Tomorrow morning the Arsenal of Democracy Flyover will take place in Washington D.C. This event commemorates the end of WWII. It was postponed from May of this year due to Covid. It will feature a flyover of 70 historic aircraft and will feature both B29's that are flying. It is scheduled for 11:30 Eastern time. I haven't been able to find if it is televised (what a surprise) but here is a link. I am sure it will be available on YouTube later.

Mike I would love to be at this event. I can't imagine the goose bumps I would have when two B29's came over with the roar of those great old radial engines. What an event.

I feel like this every time Fifi comes out to do touch and go's at Alliance......While I'm getting paid. The audible experience is equally as exciting as the visual.

Heath do you know that the actual FiFi's son is a member of NTOC. He is also one of the FiFi pilots. I talked with him at the NTOC/NAOC show last year. I think he told me they have a total of 10 qualified pilots. I am guessing they are also qualified on the B24.

The WWII planes (ALL of them) are like works of art. The P-38 is my personal favorite, but I love all those old bombers -- B-17, B-24, B-24, B-29. Had the experience to climb into one (cannot remember which) at one of the Flint Bishop International Air Shows back in the latter part of the 80's.

Going to try again tomorrow per their website:

Approximately 70 World War II aircraft will take to the skies over Washington D.C. on *NOW* September 26th. Starting at 11:30am ET, these historically sequenced warbird formations will fly over the Washington Mall in two minute intervals. The formations will represent the War’s major battles concluding with a missing man formation.
I have seen FiFi a couple of times at the WWII weekend in Reading, PA. It is truly a sight and unforgettable sound!!! They had Doc there I believe one year as well. The WWII weekend is a great event if you ever this way in early June. Hopefully will be back next year. Also check out there P-61 Black Widow project, especially where they found it and retrieve it!http://maam.org/

For those of you who wish to see a bunch of flying warbirds in person, come on up/down/over to Mid Atlantic Air Museum's WWII Weekend in Reading PA next year.
For three days, the entire museum grounds is transformed into 1944, from Homefront to French Village, O-Club to Hangar dance,European Theatre to Pacific Theatre.
The best part is the list of veterans who come and share their experiences with us. While there are fewer every day, I've had the privilege over the years to meet Bob Morgan, Paul Tibbetts, several Tuskeegee Airman, many of the Band of Brothers, some from 'the Pacific' , and even a couple British and German pilots.
Like most everything else, the 30th year had to be postponed til next year- but it is known as the best WWII show of its kind -period. Website has tons of pics -www.maam.org . They are restoring one of only 4 existing P61 Black Widows to flying condition. First full weekend in June. (I've been a volunteer there for most of em).
Oh, and we did have a P38 scheduled for this year, along with ' DOC' and 75 or so other aircraft. We'll see what they get for next year..

Bill G that has got to be one heck of an airshow. I would love to see it. I have followed that P61 for several years. They have been working on that bird a long time. That is about as good of a story as Glacier Girl. I do love these old warbirds. I spent four years in the USAF but I have told people I should have been in during WWII instead of Viet Nam. The closest thing we had at DaNang were the A1 Skyraiders. Those came from the early 50's and were fun old birds to watch.

redoldsman- maybe if FIFI or DIAMOND LIL come up next year you can hitch a ride.
Seriously, it IS a heck of an airshow, ground show, entertainment all around. I ran the gates for years, and people would always ask me on the way out if there was a hotel around so they could come back the next day..too much to see in one..All three days is best...The 1500 or so reenactors do a great job of taking you back in time..
Tri-carb I believe the Collings P38 was once in Evergeen.. It's been years since we had a P38 ('Porky's III') at the show..aircraft vary somewhat year to year. We all are hoping to get one next year..most P38s are on the West Coast, and rarely travel East..

Keeping Fifi and the other old warbirds flying is why I send the Commemorative Air Force a few bucks every year.
Still wish they hadn't changed the name but I realise not everyone has the same sense of or regard for history and old things as me.

I think there are only six P38's in flying condition. I know one has been out of service for several years due to a belly landing. The P38 is probably my favorite plane from WWII. I saw one fly in 1984. In today's political climate can you imagine if it was still called Confederate Air Force? To my knowledge they never displayed a Confederate flag. I just checked the Collins Foundation website and they do not list a P38. I wonder what one would sell for. You could buy one for $1,250 after the war.
