My 67 is mostly original, apparently including the dirt on the top. Sure is dirty. So I am cleaning it, sort of. The picture looks like it is really clean on one half but it really is not that clean. SO, anyone have advice on how to get all the dirt off? I've done the entire top and it took 3 hours of scrubbing and needs a lot more.

I use wesley's bleach white BUT...... be real careful. I would spray it directly on a rag. It does a great job but you then need to use another wet rag to wipe it down then the hose to make sure its all off. I have done that with great success on my old top. I believe you need to be careful with it. Wonder what others thoughts on the use of Wesley's are?

My new top - I have only used water but use welseys on the parade boot as that gets real dirty.

 

bill hirsch sells a convertable top cleaner and a conditioner, I used it on my dads old mustang (black top) so it was hard to see how much it cleaned unlike a white top but I didnt have any complaints w it and BH sells quality products and it is a specific use item so I guess i endorse it

 

I think a soft bristle brush and a lot of elbow grease is more important than the actual cleaner. Start mild before moving to something strong that may damage paint.

 

I have used Wesleys on my vinyl top on my 72 Cutlass with good results. Simple Green also does a good job. The stuff that Hirsch carries is RaggTapp. I have used it on the cloth top on my 54. It is a great product but not cheap. It has a cleaner and a treatment. I don't think it is necessary on a vinyl top.

 

X2 on the the Simple Green. Be careful with bleaches or TSP type cleaners. They will do an amazing job whitening but will burn and eventually brown especially plastic windows.

 

A friend of mine ordered some type of heavy duty conv top cleaner and after he got it was afraid to use it. He gave it to me and after I read the instructions I also am afraid to use it- apparently real nasty-potent stuff. I guess if you need a real heavy duty top cleaner this would be it. Pm me if you want me to get it out and find out the brand, etc.

 

My father used White "IVORY" soap(Bar) with a saddle brush on my 68 conv.since he bought it new in 68 until i replaced the top in 2002. Always looked pure clean white.

 

I use 303 Fabric / Vinyl Tonneau & Convertible Top Cleaner.

 

I use Blue Magic convertible top cleaner/protectant. Has worked great on my Jeep's soft top for years and does the same on my Cutlass.

No surprise, there are a lot of good ways to clean a convertible top. Let us know how you do.

 

I'm keeping track of this and picking up some of the products. I'll get back on it and update the results. Please keep posting your ideas.

Westleys or Black Magic doesn't smell like it has chlorine bleach maybe some other bleach, sure works good on white walls though. I just use a soft scrub brush and if it is real dirty a little Meguiars gold car wash and that does it for me.....Tedd

 

OK, don't laugh. Back in the early '70's my dad had me and my brothers weekly scrubbing the white convertible top with a scrub brush and ... Comet cleanser.

I haven't tried that on mine yet and not sure I will.

marks on it that I can't seem to get off.
I have tried bleach to no avail as well.
