Am I NUTS???

My plant is currently retooling for our new truck(F650/750,(brought back from Mexico by the way!),in the mean time they have us working 2wks on 2wks off, days works for 2 wks then nights works the next 2 on dayshift hours(I've been on nights by choice my whole time at Ford). I'm not complaining but I've been At Ford for over 22yrs & I'm use to working & working lots of hours but the alternative would have put about 800 people on indefinite lay-off. For a huge company Ford is very decent to work for!! I don't have any big projects for my 442 this winter so I've been using the time off to take care of some of those back-burner projects that we all have. My trusty napa/walker floor jack finally gave up the ghost after 35 yrs!(I was 20 when I bought it!!) It just needed a seal kit but NO I had too take it all apart, bead blast the small parts & paint everything! Now I have a garage queen floor jack!!!

Nice work! I did the same nutty thing with a '40s or '50s floor jack back in '82 or so. Replaced the leather packings, cleaned up the ram followed by a strip and repaint (orange/white). That thing served me well for about 20 years (gave it to friend for use in his nostalgic garage w/ his '66 big block Chevelle conv).

Bfg the wheels are repop '69 H/O style but they're SS3s with the pop-on centers 15x7 frt,15x8 backs. I got 'em from Coker in July of '12 but I think they're discontinued now. They don't show on their website site anymore, only the SS1s.

Thanks Eddie, great job so far on your convert!! I have a mig welder & thanks to a few years in the bodyshop at my Ford plant,I'm pretty good with it but I have no desire to get into major sheet metal replacement. I give you lots of credit for doing it & doing an awesome job!!! It's quite an art!

Thanks for the kudos Rob, it m even ans a lot

I restoreva lot of tools , and equipment, around the house, guess we were brought up in a non disposable age, we dont through things out because they are old or broken, only if they cant be fixed, or repurposed lol....

Shows pride and ingenuity,
Anyway wanted to recommend the hammerweld. Paint sold at home depotnlowes etc, perfect match for a lot of old c r aftsman tool boxes etc also hides a lot of little dings etc

Thanks Eddie, I can't throw anything away either. If it comes apart it can be fixed can't it?? I started amassing tools at 12 & I still have them all! Almost everything I have is old,(including me). My lawn tractor is an early '70s Sears 2 cyl that I gave the same treatment as my floor jack a few years ago,it'll probably outlast me,it's so well made. I've had people stop when I'm out by the street mowing & ask it it's for sale,it looks that nice! I could of gone down to "China Freight" & bought one of their new aluminum jacks, but I seriously doubt it would last 5yrs let alone 35 like my Napa jack! My Roadking's one of my "newest" & it's 10yrs old.

predator..

Rob your too funny, I just finished restoring a bobcat snowblower made by Wisconsin Marine, same thing just can't get rid of stuff LOL...

I have heard very very good things about the HF predator engines, they are well made, and basically are replacement for most Briggs 5-15 HP engines.

I have an old roper snowblower , with a tired engine that I plan to try that with LOL....

By the way I am so cheap I didnt buy snow chains, I went to home depot and bought 6 foot of chain, used my bolt cutter and made my own LOL... so yes we are nuts...

You are way ahead from any of the 98% junk you can buy today when it comes to jacks. I got so sick buying new jacks every 1-2 years I broke down a year ago and bought a Hein - Werner jack, They are the same as the old Lincoln / Napa jack. They are not cheap but well worth it after all the money I have wasted on junk jacks that you can't get seals or rebuild parts for.

Hey Eddie, my dad gave me his old MTD snowblower a few years ago. He didn't need anymore 'cause once he hit 65 the city plowed his driveway for him. I fixed it up of coarse & I also made my own tire chains!!LOL. Gearheads,it did make it nice that it was so easy to still get parts for the jack. I got my parts from Lazzars out of Long Beach Ca. Nice people, reasonable prices. The seal kit was under $40
