On my '72 Supreme, I have the two upper ones, but pretty sure I'm missing the lower ones. Is that correct? And what is code "35M20" noted in figure 2? Is that the M20 4 speed? If so, then maybe the lower seals don't apply to my vehicle since it's a U code, and if so, did the 4 speed cause the engine to run hotter than the TH400, thus the need for the lower seals?
The note under Figure 2 says "L77 & L75 with 35M20". L77 is W30 cars (VIN X) and L75 with 35M20 is 455 with four speed cars (VIN V). Your car is a VIN U 455 with 35M40, so they were not used. Keep in mind that even in 1972 the MT 455s got a more radical cam than did the AT 455s. That's why the U code L75 with AT is rated at 250 HP net and the V code L75 with MT is rated at 270 HP net.
