Alternator HELP

Alternator HELP

I'm looking for an original alternator for my 1970 olds 442.........can anyone help me? is the alesrnator for a 1970 442 an open face alternator?

I would think it to actually be a generator, unless someone converted your car to a 10 or 12SI alternator.

Whats on your car now? Might want to check part numbers before you start swapping an externally regulated to an internally regulated or vice-versa. There are wiring diagrams available for each.

yes its is an openface alternator internally regulated, there was a thread about these last year, click the link below for some help, not easy to find the exact one with correct date.

Ditto, I converted my alternator to a 12SI that i picked out of my buddies 83' Pontiac Firechicken.

I'm pretty sure Joe gave me the link to a diagram that showed how to wire it up. Worked pretty well when my car ran.

Mind you, i still left my voltage regulator on my firewall for the sake of a classic look.

I have found out '70 442 alternators are as rare as "hens teeth"!!!
