Alternator decoding please

Hey guys I have an original alternator 1100554 date code for a 71. This is how it is listed in the book. Could someone tell me what it all means. Only thing I got from it was the heavy duty cooling part. I also need to know what car this would be correct for? Thanks in advance!

Book reads off as this...
4400 C.A.C HD cool, or EWD

the series thing is set forth at the beginning of the book
They use the "00" to indicate "any digits here, like 77, 87, or 67 body styles"
The 44__ or 4400 or 44xx if you wish would for that year be the "442" series. Cutlass might be "36" series, Deltas are like 5400, 5600, etc. It's in the first few pages.

Awesome! The pic from the book was forwarded to me so I apologize I don't have the book in front of me. Do you have any idea what this alt is worth?

I did some checking of various manuals, and the part number on the alternator is a service number not a production number for an alternator. It is actually odd it is stamped into the alternator as it does not signify a specific application as almost all alternators do. The number on the alternator is a general designation for multiple years according to GM. The part numbers shown in the posted photo are not original production numbers for Oldsmobile applications also. Hope this helps.

On an interest note, that alternator is the highest rated one for the 71 A body, as it has the electric rear defroster. A/C only cars had 55 amps, while the basic car came equipped with a 37 amp model. Also, 442s in 71 all had internal voltage regulators, making them less common than the regular Cutlass models, that had the voltage regulator on the firewall. The only downside from a collector's point of view, as Rocketdevo indicated, it isn't a production version of the alternator. Nice unit though.
