altenator raised fin

been looking for a correct altenator for my 70 442. i know the 69-70 vette has the internal reg open face with raised ribs in rear as do the 70 GTO and the firebird. my question is are the number stampings the same between different manufactures?

Charlie I've always believed they are specific not only to make but models too. I've been told the one I found and plan to use in my 1970 442 is correct for the 1970 W30. If I'm wrong someone will have to speak up and enlighten us both! John

John, That number is correct for 1970 442 as well as W30 optioned cars with heavy duty cooling ( 4 core rad cars) If you have a 2 or 3 core rad, the right number is ends in "880". The diamond back or raised fins on the back, are correct for both aplications.

Tom, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me. That's good news as my 442 does have the 4 row radiator and the alternator will be one more piece to try and move it back to original. John
