Altenator Clean up
I am planning to get my Altenator fixed as the Red Wire in the back where it attaches is loose in the Assembly. I found a local guy that can repair and/or rebuild. He told me to clean it up before i bring it to him. The altenator is clean but i want to make it look new on the casing. I need to best way to clean it up.

If you can't find someone local (which I recomend) I can do it all for you. Clean, blast, rebuild, and clear coat. That would mean shipping both ways. If you don't need a numbers matching alt, a local parts store should have one for you.
Regardless of who you have rebuild it, emphasize over and over that you do NOT want them to paint the case. for some reason, rebuild shops think they're doing you a favor when they paint it. I've had this problem with an alternator and a transmission -- despite the fact I told them not to paint it. In each case they were so proud of the fact that they found a paint that "looks just like aluminum." Ummm, no.
I don't like painted aluminium either. I do like a good clear coat, but it should be a high temp non yellowing type. It will keep the finished look and clean up easy too. If you don't clear coat it, it will oxidize. Never paint or coat the inside and do not cover any part that will be used for a ground connection.
