Anybody planning on attending the All GM Show in Rockville MD? I am planning on attending. Iam taking my 442 convertible.

Marcus,

Thanks for the plug. You beat me to it. Yes, the Capitol City Rockets is once again co-hosting our All-GM show in Rockville, MD. We usually get a great mix of cars - there were more 442s than Camaros last year. We have breakfast and lunch available, a relatively small swap meet area, a DJ, and peer-judged trophies, as well as two committee-judged Best-of-Show trophies for stock and modified.

One change this year is to group mildly modified cars with the performance cars (mildly modified is defined as non-stock chrome, aftermarket intake and carb, headers, etc) to keep the stock classes truly stock. Personally I think it takes a lot more work to show a correct stock vehicle and with the peer judging we wanted to give those folks a better chance at an award. The modified classes are for the heavily modified - street rods, kustoms, pro-street, etc.

Hope to see you all there.

I'm going to try and make it. If I do make it I not going to bring the cutlass, not trusting the trans in beach traffic over the bay bridge.

It sounds interesting. But I remember the shows of my youth and those cars were perfect. My '71 covertible is a great 10 footer, but she is completely stock and up close you can see that she does need work. I'd almost be embarrassed.

Park next to my 62. It makes all the cars around it look like trophy winners.

Seriously, bring your car. Except for the two Best of Show trophies, this is a peer-judged show. Very low pressure, lots of fun, usually very hot and humid (hey, it's D.C. in August, what do you expect?).

The nice thing is that we always get a great cross section of GM cars, not just Camaros. We've had a Yenko Vega, a Citation X-11, a Reatta, Allantes, a 1920s Pontiac hill climb racer, a 1940s Pontiac woody, a Saab Sonnet (GM owned Saab for a while), and a host of similar cars that you don't normally see. Food, DJ, and very cool vehicles.

I just might. Thanks for letting me know. I only live about 40 minutes away anyway (southern Maryland), so I might just grab the family and make a day of it.

The wife has given permission. No back to school shopping to get done this weekend, so barring rain or hail, I'll be there.

I still don't think that she's a show car, but I'm hoping to get some ideas and pointers from you guys.

Never done a show before and I have some quick questions.

I'm not sure what catagory to enter her under. It says "stock" is as the car left the factory. What if I have Cragars on it instead of the stock wheels? Also, the previous owners stuck a 442 grill on the front (I'm working on replacing it). Other than that, she is completely and utterly stock (right down to the window sticker and protect-o-plate).

We changed the classes this year to try and give the totally stock cars a chance to get a trophy over the cars with chrome and aftermarket intakes. Personally I think it's much more difficult to do a totally correct stock resto than a resto-mod, but since this show is peer-judged it's really just a beauty contest.

Theoretically, your car would go in the "performance and mild mod" class, but it looks like those classes will be pretty large, so we may move a car like yours to stock anyway. If you have a question, we can talk about it at the registration desk.

I should also point out that we're still accepting PayPal registrations for $15. It's $20 at the gate tomorrow.

Thanks for the info.

We are still planning on attending, however if they are still forcasting storms for the late morning and afternoon, we might leave the olds at home and just come up in another car for the show (I don't like for her to get wet, unless I'm washing her off).

That is why I have been holding off on pre-registering.

Current prediction is rain ending by 7:00 am and a beautiful day until early evening.
