Air Conditioning from Rock Auto

Has anyone bought any air conditioning compressors from Rock Auto. Needing to replace mine on my 83 H/O and was wondering how good theirs were.

They usually have at least 3 brands of most items. I would bet their stuff is as good anybody's. Be sure to figure in shipping because that is a heavy item.

Agreed, buying from Rock Auto is similar to buying form the local auto parts store but sometimes with better prices. Figure in the shipping to determine how it compares to your local parts store, assuming the same manufacturer.

Air Conditioning Compressor

I am getting ready to order a new compressor from probably Rock Auto but needing to know which one to order for my 83 H/O. I have tried to get this info from Rock Auto but they don't know. All I am needing to know is which compressor I need, With the switch or without the switch. I am planning on using r12a which is synthetic freon with the possiblity of using r134 as an option. Which compressor do I need? I just want to make sure I get the right one as I don't want to do this a second time. Larry

Theirs will be as good as anyone's, since R4 compressors are all junk anyway. I don't think anyone even does core charge on them anymore. Their only saving grace is they are smaller than an A6, but not nearly as reliable.

The compressors should be listed for VIN 9 engine which would be Hurst. There's some difference in clutch/pulley diameter depending on rear end gearing. Hurst/Olds came stock with 3.73 so see if the listing says anything to that effect.
