Air cleaner value?

Air cleaner value?

Kind of an odd question, but are 'basic' air cleaners worth anything?

I have an air filter housing, orangish-red with a "rocket 350" sticker, off a '69 VistaCruiser. It's in good shape, though the paint and sticker are rough. (That is, there's no major rust or dents.)

I want to modify it by adding a second air horn, to make a poor-man's dual-snorkel aircleaner. Would I be cutting up anything valuable or desirable? I see some similar aircleaners on eBay for upwards of $200, but I know the asking price isn't necessarily the selling price.

I wouldn't pay $200 for an air cleaner like that. I'm sure I could find one cheaper than that.

I'd pay $100. I wouldn't think you're committing serious sacrilege by making it the way you want it. If it turns out nice, anyway.

People ask stupid money for everything these days. I combined a 307 and 260 air cleaner to make a dual snorkel air cleaner. One smaller, the 307 and one larger the 260, go figure. It looked a lot like the Oldsmobile dual snorkel from the mid 70s H/O air cleaner. Almost no special Oldsmobile had a regular single snorkel air cleaner, cut away.

Thanks gents. Even $100 is more than I'd initially assumed they were worth- back in the day, you couldn't give a factory air cleaner away.

Not so sure I'll do it with the Vista housing- the more I look, the more surgery it'll need to clear the HEI. (I had to do that to my Toro dual-snorkel all those years ago.)

You might try putting a spacer under the air cleaner to clear the HEI. I did that on a 72 Cutlass when I put an HEI in it. It was better than taking a hammer to the air cleaner.

Two barrel air cleaners aren't worth anything. Low compression 4 barrels need to be in good shape, but they go for a little, like 50 bucks. High compression in good shape, 100 or less. The 442 air cleaners are more, 68-72 OAI more still, and 67 OAI yet more, and 66 OAI might fund a year at college.
