Aftermarket gauges

1962 98 394ci

I have a set of volt, temp, oil pressure gauges I'm installing.
Is there another location for the coolant temp sensor other than the stock location?
It'd be nice to have the idiot light still work if possible and if not will the light stay on if I remove stock sensor?

Where is the oil pressure sensor and is there another location to hook the gauge also?

Thanks

If you replace the OE temperature sender with one for your gauge then your idiot light won't work. Most aftermarket intake manifolds have a second port for a coolant temperature sender on the opposite side of the thermostat housing. Good luck finding one for your 394. You might be better off drilling the OE intake manifold and welding a bung onto it for your gauge.

Your oil pressure gauge goes in the oil galley port behind your water pump.

Thanks
The idiot light not working is fine I just dont want it to be on all the time if I disconnect it. I'm not into drilling and welding on this intake. Way more work than it's worth to me.

For the oil sender I guess the water pump has to come off?
Man I was hoping for a little simpler install but I gotta do what I gotta do.

You don't have to remove the water pump for access to the oil port

That is the top of your fuel pump and the fuel line that goes to your carburetor.

Zoom out. You can also see the passenger's side head in that pic.

That too but I'm talking about the square head plug behind the hose.
Yes that is the passenger side head

Driver side front. Locate the flat with the casting number between the back of the water pump and front of the intake, under the thermostat housing. It will be on the right side of the flat.

This is what I'm looking at. I can't find the flat you're referring to. I don't see any plugs on that side either.

Mike, I think most have missed the fact that you have a 394 CID motor. I suggest you contact Charlie Jones for the correct location of the oil pressure port. However, you may want to look at his build thread which is as of this moment at the top of the Major Builds and Projects forum and back up to post 220 where he has two videos of initial start up of his 1963 Olds. Since the body is off the frame in these videos it is easy to see that he has plumbed a pressure gauge from the top of the oil filter housing.

Thanks!
I kinda figured they were talking of a different engine.

I just now found a thread on jalopy journal and it confirms the only place for it is on top the oil filter adapter.

I'm gonna log into Charlie's build thread for future reference.

Thanks again👍

FFS, yup, I glossed over the 394 part. Sorry
