Advice for SSI Rims
So I just hung up from Summitt racing. I have had a set of Wheel Vintiques 52 Series SSI 15x8 rims on order since February. They have changed the backorder date 4 times. They are now telling me the rims won't ship until late October. Anybody have any suggestions on comparable rims that may have a better availability? I'm tired of dealing with them!

The reason Summit can’t get them is WV doesn’t have them. I called WV about 4 weeks ago, and their expectations were the same. There was a couple of other places on eBay that advertised like they had them, but I doubt they had them in stock.

Welcome to the club. I also ordered some 15x8's in Feb. I knew they'd be back ordered but wasn't expecting this. Still waiting. I can't even get a human to answer the phone when I try to call WV.
Not entirely sure what's going on. The obvious answer is Corona but still?? Second obvious answer is...California.

I ran into the same thing in '18, I ordered them from 4 different places before I gave up and bought aftermarket (Keystone Classics) for my Vista. I found out that they make them in batches, several different styles are made like that by the same factory, you just have to wait until its times to make that style.

Well here we are at 20 months waiting on Summitt and Wheel Vintiques for a set of 15x8 SSI rims. I've never seen a company continously lie about availability. Throwing in the towel. I'm done with them!

IDK what the availability is but have you considered going 17's? Similar look, won't rust and much better tire availability

I have considered chroming a set of 14's that I have but tire availability in 14" tires is getting somewhat limited. I've looked at the 17" on YearOne but I'm not sold on the dull aluminum look.

I finally got off that merry-go-round. Had a set on order for about 1.5 years and pulled the plug about a month ago after getting conflicting stories/excuses every 3 months. I gave them waaay more chances than they deserved for two reasons; 1) I really wanted a set of their wheels, and 2) COVID and California have been a perfect storm for poor delivery over the past couple of years.
Coker bought WV in the not too distant past and as bad as WV may have been run before, it is now a full blown train wreck. I switched gears and went with a set of American Racing VN500's which have an SSI look. They're cast aluminum rather than a two piece chrome plated steel but really look good on the car. I'm planning on posting some photos in the wheels/tires location on the forum.

Thanks. I held out for a long time because I really wanted to go with chrome plated steel rather than aluminum but, I have to say, I'm very satisfied with these. Quality is excellent and I think they really add to the look of the car. You may notice I have SSI center caps on them. They come with a handsome American Racing cap but I bought the SSI caps and used those instead. Had to grind and modify the retaining cup a little bit to fit but it all worked out.
One interesting thing I found in digging into all of the wheel delays over the past two years is that steel wheels are generally back-ordered or not available whereas machined aluminum wheels seem to be much more available. I can't be sure, but I suspect the rolled hoops and stamped centers are coming from a very limited supply base, most likely in China, and the breakdown in the global supply chain has affected what aftermarket wheel companies can offer. I think the majority of cast/machined aluminum wheels are being made here in the US so they haven't really been affected (as much).

I waited 9 months for a set but never got them, I finally settled on a set of Keystone Klassics and am happy with them. Funny story, I ran into a guy at "Run to the Sun" in SC, he said he waited almost a year for a set of Keystone Klassics but they never came in so he settled on a set of SSI's.

Wheel Vintiques / Summit Racing SS1 Wheels
I ordered 2 15x7 ss1's through Summit Racing last September (I already had 15x10's for the back). When they were ordered Summit's website said 2 month expected delivery. I called both Summit Racing and messaged wheel vintiques. In August when I spoke to the unhelpful Summit support person he said that he hadn't had any come in since 2020. On Sept, 22 I left a review for Wheel Vintiques on YELP and messaged through Facebook that same review to both Summit Racing and Wheel Vintiques. Don't know if it was a coincidence but my wheels showed up on the 29th. No messages saying they were coming or anything. This is what I sent:
I ordered 2 Wheel Vintiques wheels through Summit Racing in September of 2021. Wheel Vintiques doesn't respond to Facebook posts in a timely manner or at all. When I originally ordered it was expected 2 months to get the wheels. Summit Racing continues moving the expected delivery out 2 months at a time. I already purchased the matching 15x10 back wheels, about $600.00, from someone else so basically I can run mismatched wheels or wait for them to maybe send me my wheels someday. I will never buy from Coker Tire or Wheel Vintiques again and I don't trust Summit Racing anymore as they are not telling you when you order that Wheel Vintiques doesn't deliver. I could reorder the Wheels today and Summit would say they should be here in December. I talked to Summit Racing customer support last month and he said they have been waiting since 2020 for wheels.

The previous owner changed the wheels on my car, sometime in 2019, before I bought it. He had receipts from what are listed as a set of 5) SSI rims, 15" by I think, 8". Tires he put on it are 235's. So, it sounds like I have a good deal here? I liked the look of the original SSII 14" at first, but am getting used to my SSI wheels. He had them painted car's color.

I had already paid for the wheels from Summit and they had went up $130.00 by the time I sent the message to them. My understanding is that coker owns Wheel Vintiques. Maybe a message to them would have helped. Since I received the wheels 7 days after the message I thought that my experience might have helped others.

17x8 American Racing VN501's are what I chose for my 69 442. I liked them more than the yearone, mainly due to the contours were closer to the SS1. Used a set of center caps from Thornton, with a minor modification (bent the tabs on the backing plate).
