Adding Tach, temp & Oil Pressure Gauges to 74" 455 with HEI
Folks
I would like to add some gauges to my 74 Delta 88 with the 455 and factory HEI. I notice there is a tach plug on the distributor. Any insight on the best way to add some gauges to supplement the warning lights? Is a tach as easy as finding one that has the proper HEI distributor plug on it?

You don't need a plug, just 1 female spade terminal on the end. The rest of the tach wiring is usually a grnd n power wire. For a volt meter you just need to tap into a 12v source when the key is on. For oil pressure and water temp, you can "T" off the existing ports. Then all you have left is the lighting, and then you tap into your panel light wires for that. I ran my lighting to 12v steady with the light switch on so they don't dim. I used the inexpensive Sunpro gauges and tach.

I added all the gauges you mentioned on my car, and everything was electrical wiring. Don't recall where I got the small tach, but actually fit it in the dash. The small triple Auto Meter gauge cluster is under the dash, a little to the right of the driver. Painted the plastic gauge cluster bracket to match the dash, and looks pretty good. As mentioned, I put tees on the senders, and the dash lights still work too.
