I've got a 1967 442 Fremont built car so it doesn't have the code on the cowl tag showing its a 442. It came with a 400 4bbl, TH400 and 3.08 posi rear end. It also has a column shift and bench seat. I'm thinking about swapping over bucket seats, console and a 4 speed just to make a more fun driver. I've got most the parts already. I'm not real attached to the car so this one I don't plan to keep until I die, just a fun driver for a while that I will eventually sell. I believe the conversion will make it more market-able than the stock setup when the day comes that I want to send it down the road. I know I'm changing the color as it came factory with a dark aqua color that has been changed to black. I'm leaning more toward white with a red interior. What do you guys think?

 

Sounds like a fun project. White and red go well together. A 67 442 with buckets, console, and a 4spd, whats not to like?

An Olds in painted B, K, L, paint codes with a white interior is different and very sharp IMO. Not common. Laser straight Black, Red gut doesn't suck either.
I had the chance to buy a mint CALI survivor 67 GTO in 1986 that was an L code Mariner Turquois poly with a white gut no vinyl top. VERY VERY SHARP CAR. $3500! GAH! If foot could reach ***.

Thank you for the encouragement guys. The body is very straight on this car so I think it would be an easy one to start with. I'm comfortable turning wrenches but want to learn how to do body/paint work and think this might be a good car to start with. I also understand white is more forgiving if I do find it needing body work and don't get it perfect.

 

How many holes do you have to make in the body to accommodate the manual trans? The TH400 should be switch pitch, which is more fun than the normal. If you want to get rid of the trans and seat, I might want, depending on shape.

 

PM sent. I know I'll need to cut a hole in the transmission tunnel, and add brackets for the bucket seats. But I think everything else would be a bolt on change.

 

Its a much bigger project, but I also have a 1967 442 post car that had come with factory 4 speed and bench seat, no power steering or power brakes. That one I'm wanting to restore back to original as much as possible, but its much further down in the queue as far as projects to work on. Its a Lansing built car so it has the correct codes on the trim tag and also the correct frame.

 

Good luck with the project... I have had several color combos for 67 442... Red/White & Aqua/White were my favorites... Still have my Aqua/White 67 W30...

 

White/red is a great color combo.
I agree,all the mods your planning will make the car more desirable to a non numbers person when it comes time to sell.
