Correct console color for 68 442 (?)
Correct console color for 68 442 (?)
My '68 442 console is white (yellowed with age)... Should it be pearl white or the same white as on the my new seatbacks and side aprons on the bucket seats? I also see cars with white interior and black consoles... Was this an option? Which way is right? Please advise... so I can order vinyl spray to renew the console... THx

I don't know the answer to pearl vs. white, but..
Almost all of the '68s with white int/consoles I've seen had black consoles. I did see a white console once, but it was a freshly restored/painted & struck me as off because the white interior is kinda oddball in that only certain pieces are white & the rest is black.
The original console shells were made of that yellowish/grayish/tannish plastic stuff & then painted. Re-pops are black plastic.
Is there any trace of any overspray on the inside of your console that you can reference?
..and, you might track down jdana24 here. He has a '68 w/ white int.

(take your pick)According to the assembly manual, Section 0- General info, a 947 interior (parchment bucket seat) had a black console. The parchment console was only used with the 949 interior, which was teal
Did things change for '69? Reason I ask is, I have a parchment (cream) colored console in an original parchment interior on an originally Sable (brown) colored car? Does that mean that somebody changed my console color? Doesn't seem likely -- I think it would look sort of weird if the console was black.

Manual say?
I can only tell you what it says for 68. That's not to say something didn't change later on in 68. The 68 assembly manual that most people have doesn't have updates through the end of the 68 model run so there could have been later changes. 69 could be totally different.

68s w pearl interiors have seen pearl consoles , but have seen black as well.
So whether painted pearl consoles were added down the road to non console cars or they were available.
69 parchment consoles w parchment interior is definite

(take your pick)I added a console to my 68 and painted it pearl which matched the seatbacks as well as aprons. Parts Place pearl paint was a good match. If you are going black I suggest SEM Landau black.
The '68's I have seen and the ones I own have white consoles w/ white interior, both auto and four speed, Lansing and Oshawa. The black interior car has a black console, four speed. The '68 four speed w/ white interior I have I bought new, and it came with a white console (parchment). '68 parchment is a different colour than '69 parchment. '68 is pearlescent and '69 is more carmel or coffee w/cream. A/M page 185 line six reads...33687 Holiday coupe --(bucket) 947v--"parchment". Page 186 consoles, reads Parchment---trim 947, 977.

68 Console Color
Well...
Yes, according to the General Info section of the GM Manual, it dictates that white was for 949 (teal) cars... I just wonder if late production starting using up the "white" inventory because my console is definitely original and untouched. There is white paint (yellowed now) inside the console and underneath where daylight has not been since '68... I will however have to consider black because it just seems to flow better with the door panels, dash, etc. Now I have to wonder if the seat surrounds and seat backs should be '68 parchment, white or pearl.... My old stuff (in hidden areas) looks like parchment (white) not pearl... Any thoughts on this one?

68 interiors are pearl w the metallic aspect to them including seat covers, door panels and ect .
Parchment is 69 which as all know is an off white sorta speak .
Very distinct differences among the two years as illustrated when purchasing new interior pieces and or paint . They are not interchangeable colors.

Dean's 68 vert has a white console too. I'm guessing there was a late production change. I'm missing page 3 of that section too. If anyone has it please let me know.
