8.2 posi spider gears

8.2 posi spider gears

Are they the same as open spiders.

I can't see any reason they would be different. Even when you buy ring gear and pinion, they do not ask if you have a open or posi rearend.

Well that's because the ring gear bolts to the flange on the outside of the carrier, which is the same for both open and posi carriers. The internal guts are what's different between an open and a posi carrier. I do not know specifically if the spider gears on an 8.2 are different or not. The side gears on a clutch type posi are different as they have notches on the outside to engage the clutches and steels, but if the 8.2 is a cone style then I don't know.

The side gears on a posi unit have splines to engage the posi clutches. Side gears on a non-posi unit do not.
