'79 Dual Gate to 1970

Folks:

My first visit, some very interesting chatter. I have a 1970 442 which I have been restoring. It currently has a TH400 with a Hurst Rachet Shifter. I also have a '79 H/O with the dual gate. I would like to put the dual gate in the 1970. Are they the same? I understand there may be a problem with the cable. Thanks All

The 70-72 Dual Gate cable is 30" overall and 18" is the casing length. Regular floor shift cable is shorter (27 1/8" and 16 5/8"). They are available from Year One, Fusicks, etc.

Here's a tech site on (what seems to be) the 79 Dual Gate including installation: http://hrst79.tripod.com/79hrst/id11.html

I'm not sure if that site is correct, though....does yours have the neutral safety switch in the shifter housing? 70-72 had the neutral safety switch in the normal location under the steering column, so wiring is an issue.

The dual gate mechanism should be the same, but the console plate is completely different for the 70-72 console.

I am sure that you know this and just used the phrase "restoring" to mean it is your present project. But for other readers that may not know, restoring a car implies returning to original condition. Some restorers get pretty **** about this. I have observed people arueing over the placement, size, and shape of chalk inspection marks on the undercarraige of the car being restored. Too much heartache for me...
